SEYMOUR —
Aaron Daniel hit five 3-pointers and scored 32 points to lead Charlestown to a 64-52 come-from-behind victory over host Seymour on Friday.
Chris Braun added 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Pirates, who overcame a 44-41 deficit after three quarters by outscoring the Owls 21-6 in the final period.
After a slow start in which Charlestown led 9-7 after the opening quarter, both teams scored 22 points in the second period. Seymour then took the three-point lead with a 17-12 advantage in the third quarter.
Daniel added six boards as the 5-3 Pirates outrebounded the Owls, 29-24.
Chase Salmon led Seymour (1-10) with 13 points.
The Pirates are off until Tuesday when they will travel to Rock Creek Academy to face the 5-7 Lions.
• Creek falls to Musketeers: Thanks to several missed layups and free throws, Eastern built an 11-point fourth-quarter lead over Silver Creek Friday in Sellersburg.
The Dragons were able to cut the deficit to one in the final seconds but fell short, 56-55 in a Mid-Southern Conference battle.
“The focus and effort just weren’t there for the first three quarters,” Silver Creek coach Brandon Hoffman said. “We fought back. But by then, it was too late.”
The Musketeers outrebounded Silver Creek 34-14 and the Dragons went just 5-of-10 from the foul line.
“Pekin really out-battled us,” Hoffman said. “On offense, we missed a lot of layups and easy opportunities.
Gabe Bauer led Silver Creek with 15 points and Jake Steele added 10.
The Dragons, who will go to Borden tonight, are now 2-8 overall and winless in four MSC contests.
