CLARKSVILLE — Providence (8-8) overcame a 4-2 deficit with a four-run home fourth to get a much-needed victory over Madison at home on Wednesday, 6-4.

“It really does feel good to get the win. It’s been awhile since we had our last one,” Providence coach Scott Hornung said. “We’ve been in so many games recently, but we haven’t made plays to finish it. Tonight, I’m happy to say we made some great defensive plays in the last couple of innings, and we had a pitcher step up and make some nice pitches for us.”

The key hit came off the bat of Ben Shahroudi. With the bases loaded and Providence trailing 4-3, Shahroudi poked a single to plate two runs and give the Pioneers their first lead of the game. Later in the inning, Jacob Quinkert hit a two-out single to plate an insurance run.

Also for Providence, Andrew Hunt was 2-for-3, as was Dorian Noel. George Knott also slugged two hits in the game.

“Our hitting has been starting to come around a bit,” Hornung said. “We haven’t been winning some games, but we’ve been producing some runs, which was a problem for us earlier (in the season).”

Jon Davis improved to 4-1 in the victory, helping the Pioneers overcome five errors in the field.

Providence travels to Mount Tabor Field to take on New Albany tonight.

Reich pitched all five innings and struck out 10 Lions.

Jeffersonville scattered 10 hits in the winning performance.

Courtney Shepherd brought the clutch bat for Jeff, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

“Courtney has been batting really well for us,” Bradley said. “She’s probably above .400 on the season. She’s been getting it done when it needs to get done.”
