EVANSVILLE —
Jeffersonville came back from three points down after three quarters to take a late lead in regulation at Evansville Memorial on Saturday.
However, the Red Devils were not able to hang on to the lead and the Tigers outscored Jeff 8-2 in overtime for a 47-41 victory.
“Once we gained the lead late, we had some costly turnovers that let them back in it,” Jeff coach Matt Pait said. “And we didn’t do what we needed to execution-wise in overtime to win the game.”
Jeff took a 12-9 lead after one quarter but was outscored 11-5 in the second to allow Memorial to take a 20-17 lead at intermission.
“Memorial played a great game and had a great gameplan coming in,” Pait said. “They made us play their game most of the night and we were unable to attack like we wanted to. We let them take the fight to us and, as a result, we had to play from behind.”
Jeff is now 5-6 overall. Following a four-game losing streak, the Devils won two straight. Since, however, they have dropped two of their last three.
“As a team, we aren’t ready to win consistently, because we haven’t been willing to put in the work it takes to do that,” Pait said. “We are still searching for some toughness, focus and heart.”
Haley Vogen led Jeffersonville with 14 points. Aurreeshae Hines added 12 for the Devils. Memorial’s Stephanie Sherwood led all scorers with 16 points.
Jeff has a week off before traveling to face Class A No. 12 New Washington (9-2) on Saturday.
