Kimmel finishes fourth at Daytona

Clarksville native Frank Kimmel started the 2013 ARCA Racing Series season on the right foot on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Kimmel placed fourth in the Lucas Oil 200 after starting the race from 19th place. The 50-year-old is seeking his 10th ARCA championship in 2013.

“Really proud of all these @thorsportracing guy!” Kimmel posted on his Twitter account after the race. “Great work all week and came home 4th! Great start to the season!”

Kimmel’s nephew, Sellersburg resident Will Kimmel, was not as fortunate at Daytona. The Kimmel Racing driver finished 33rd as he had a left-rear tire problem. Will Kimmel started alongside his uncle in 20th spot.

“Left rear came a part on the car, just shredded going into 3,” Will Kimmel tweeted on his Twitter account. “Not the day we were looking for.”

Pole sitter John Wes Townley was the race winner, followed by Kyle Larson and Ricky Ehrgott. Sean Corr finished fifth.

ARCA’s next race will be Sunday, March 9 at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway.

Kentucky Xtreme kicks off season Sunday

The Kentucky Xtreme indoor football team will kick off its season at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Freedom Hall in Louisville against defending Continental Indoor Football League champion Saginaw Sting.

The Xtreme are coached by former Louisville Fire assistant coach Roy McMillen. The roster includes former University of Louisville players Doug Beaumont, JaJuan Spillman, Richard Raglin, Sergio Spencer, Stephen Garr and Jonathan Russell. They also feature former Kentucky Wildcat Maurice Grinter and Kentucky State University players Kevin Warner, Juwan Jones, Jerimy Watson, Tony Maddox and Anthony Richardson.

Charlestown teams hosting spaghetti dinner on March 8

The Charlestown Youth Pirates and Charlestown Youth Lady Pirates will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 8 at the A & E building in Charlestown. There will be a silent basket auction as well.  

These programs are designed to help youngsters develop the skills and discipline needed to succeed in their future middle and high school basketball careers.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. The dinner includes salad, spaghetti, dessert and drink.
