Harper leads ISWA national team

Former Jeffersonville High School wrestler Zach Harper coached the Indiana State Wrestling Association middle school national team this past weekend at a national meet.

Harper guided the ISWA gold team to a third-place finish and the blue team to seventh place. He is currently majoring in education at Indiana University Southeast and the head wrestling coach at Parkview Middle School.

Barnett improves to 2-0

Silver Creek graduate Kyle Barnett upped his record to 2-0 on Sunday as Hanover defeated Mount St. Joseph in the second game of a doubleheader, 7-2.

Barnett, a freshman, pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits. He walked six and struck out four.

Hanover will travel to Bluffton (Ohio) Friday.

Tharp has good week for Loyola

New Albany graduate Kaycee Tharp went 4-for-10 in six games for Loyola of Chicago last week. The freshman scored two runs and had three RBIs in that span.

On Sunday, Tharp went 2-for-4 with a home run and drove in two runs in a 12-5 win at Butler. The homer was the first in her collegiate career.

The Ramblers (7-22, 2-1 Horizon League) host Wisconsin today.

ADULT softball

USSSA qualifying tournament

There will be a USSSA National Qualifying Tournament in New Albany this weekend.

The tournament is for E, D and C teams, and there will be a three-game guarantee. The winner of each class gets a paid bid to its respective national tournament.

Deadline is Thursday at noon. To register, call Charlie at (812) 218-0656.
