HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Bramble headed for Dartmouth

FLOYDS KNOBS — Former Floyd Central running back Kyle Bramble committed to Dartmouth College on National Signing Day Wednesday.

Dartmouth, a prestigious Ivy League institution, does not give athletic scholarships, but Bramble’s way will be mostly paid, the senior said Wednesday.

“They can’t really give athletic (scholarships), but they can give academic and financial aid,” Bramble said. “I’ll pay close to nothing to go there.”

In Bramble, Dartmouth’s football team gets Indiana’s most prolific rusher of the 2011 season. Bramble gained 2,875 yards on 345 attempts, scoring 47 touchdowns on the ground. Bramble also scored five receiving touchdowns, gaining 338 yards through the air on just nine grabs.

Indiana University and Harvard College were also interested in Bramble.

“I’d been keying on Dartmouth for a while, so I didn’t really try to go anywhere else,” he said.

Bramble said he plans to study chemical engineering, but is keeping his options open to other types of engineering once he gets to school.

“I’ve always wanted to do some kind of engineering,” Bramble said. “Because it’s a liberal-arts school, you don’t really have to pick one until your last year. So I’m just going to explore what’s at the school and see what’s best for me.”
