HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: South takes 2 of 3 in North-South All-Star games

FORT WAYNE — The South All-Stars took two games out of three from the North on Saturday and Sunday at the North-South All-Star game in Fort Wayne.

In Game 1 on Saturday, the South All-Stars coasted to a 10-3 victory. The South All-Sars scored four runs in the second inning and played add-on for five more in the third through fifth.

South beat North by an even more lopsided result in Game 2, winning 14-3. Jeffersonville’s Jeremy Eger and Silver Creek’s Kyle Briner both played in the game.

In three plate appearance, Eger went 1-for-2 with a single and reached again when he was hit by a pitch. Eger scored two runs for the South All-Stars. Briner hit a triple in his only time up.

Briner pitched three innings of relief for South, going three innings and allowing just one run on four hits with a walk. Briner struck out three batters and threw 19 of his 23 pitches for strikes.

North finally took a game on Sunday with a 7-3 victory. Eger did not play, while Briner went 0-for-1 at the plate.
