NEW ALBANY —
Indiana University Southeast guard Cameron Mitchell has been named to the NAIA Division II men’s basketball All-America second team.
The NAIA announced the postseason awards on Wednesday.
Mitchell, a Cincinnati native, averaged 16.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season. He finished the season ranked No. 15 in total steals in NAIA Division II.
Jake Simpson, a Louisville native and Pleasure Ridge Park grad, averaged 15.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He also shot 50 percent (62-124) from three-point range which ranked first in NAIA Division II.
The Grenadiers finished the season at 30-5 and fell to eventual national champion Cardinal Stritch 69-56 in the national semifinals.
Indiana University Southeast sophomore guard Heather Wheat has been named an NAIA Division II Women's Basketball All-American honorable mention selection.
The NAIA released the All-America teams on Wednesday.
Wheat, a Louisville native and Butler High School grad, finished the season averaging 19.5 points per game which ranked No. 7 in NAIA Division II. She also ranked No. 9 in assists per game with 4.97.
The Grenadiers finished 17-13 and fell to eventual KIAC champion Point Park in the KIAC semifinals.

• Jeff Thompson (Louisville baseball, Floyd Central graduate, Jr.) — top performance: winning pitcher in a starting role in the Cardinals’ 12-4 home victory over Pittsburgh on Friday, seven innings pitched, three runs allowed (all earned), three hits, seven strikeouts, three walks; notes: Thompson became the sixth pitcher in U of L history to earn 10 or more victories in a season on Friday; he is one win away from tying the school record for most victories in a season; Friday’s win clinched the Cardinals a share of the Big East Conference championship; they claimed the outright conference title on Saturday with a 7-4 home triumph over the Panthers; team records: 46-10 overall, 20-4 Big East; Thompson’s record: 10-1. -
