Grenadiers’ Woods, Wheat make all-KIAC team
IU Southeast senior guard Ashmere Woods and Grenadiers’ sophomore guard Heather Wheat were named to the 2012-2013 all-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team on Sunday.
Entering Monday’s semifinal of the KIAC Tournament, Wheat led the Grenadiers in scoring at 20.3 points per game and five assists per game. Woods was second on the team in points per game (16.9) and first on the team in rebounds per game at 9.1.

Three IU Southeast players named to all-KIAC team
IU Southeast junior guard Cameron Mitchell was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and teammates Jake Simpson and Kevin Mitchell were named to the all-KIAC team on Sunday.
Cameron Mitchell also earned the KIAC Newcomer of the Year award.
Entering Monday’s KIAC Tournament semifinal, Cameron Mitchell led the Grenadiers in scoring at 17 points per game. He was followed by Simpson at 15.8 and Kevin Mitchell at 13.1. Also entering Monday’s contest, Simpson led NAIA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage at 50.9 percent.

Jeff girls’ spring clinics
The Jeffersonville High School girls’ basketball team will be hosting spring basketball clinics for girls grades 4-8 from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in March (March 5-6, 12-13 and 19-20) at Jeff High.
Cost is $50 per player, which includes a T-shirt. If interested, contact Jeff girls’ basketball coach Matt Pait at mpait@gcs.k12.in.us.

• Jeff Thompson (Louisville baseball, Floyd Central graduate, Jr.) — top performance: winning pitcher in a starting role in the Cardinals’ 12-4 home victory over Pittsburgh on Friday, seven innings pitched, three runs allowed (all earned), three hits, seven strikeouts, three walks; notes: Thompson became the sixth pitcher in U of L history to earn 10 or more victories in a season on Friday; he is one win away from tying the school record for most victories in a season; Friday’s win clinched the Cardinals a share of the Big East Conference championship; they claimed the outright conference title on Saturday with a 7-4 home triumph over the Panthers; team records: 46-10 overall, 20-4 Big East; Thompson’s record: 10-1. -
