The New Albany Youth Basketball League, in its 15th year under New Albany High School boys’ basketball coach Jim Shannon, will have sign-ups on Saturday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9-11 a.m. at the NAHS main gymnasium.
There is only room for 60 boys in grades 1-4 and 60 boys in grades 5-6. Upon enrolling, players and parents will receive a schedule of practices and games.

Jenkins finishes fourth in Junior Championship
Floyd Central High School boys’ golfer Devin Jenkins finished fourth in the Oakley Hoosier Junior Championship last weekend at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, shooting a two-round score of 149 (5-over-par). Jenkins led after the first round with a 1-under 71.
Fellow Floyd Central golfer Jack Sparrow ended up 28th with a 13-over 157. Floyds Knobs resident Kevin Crone placed 51st with a 20-over 164, while Floyd Central golfer Daniel Shepard finished 57th with a 21-over 165. Clarksville resident Nick Cappola was 69th with a 25-over 169.

SC’s Clayton verbally commits to Maryville
Silver Creek High School senior guard Emily Clayton has given a verbal commitment to play basketball next season at Maryville, an NCAA Division II school in St. Louis. Clayton made the News and Tribune All-Area team last season.

Xtreme hires new defensive coordinator
Veteran indoor football coach Marcus James has been named defensive coordinator and director of scouting for the Kentucky Xtreme of the Continental Indoor Football League.
James, who played at Temple University from 1980-82, went on to play for the Philadelphia Stars of the now-defunct United States Football League. From there, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served from 1983-1992, attaining the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.
Upon coming home, he coached high school football in Atlanta with his father, James James, and his uncle, Robert James.
In 2008, he was named director of player development for the Indoor Football League. He also has been involved in scouting and coaching for the Richmond Revolution, the Alaska Wild, the Western Michigan Thunderhawks, the Arizona Outlaws, the Chattanooga Generals and the Erie Explosion of the IFL.
He is the owner of Team James Scouting Company, which evaluates and develops talent for indoor football teams across the country. His clients have included the Tulsa Talons, the Alaska Wild, the Rochester (N.Y.) Raiders, the Colorado Ice and the Iowa Barnstormers.
The Xtreme will begin play at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. at Freedom Hall in Louisville. The CIFL schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
