SELLERSBURG —
The New Washington girls’ basketball team had four players score in double figures in a 90-12 victory on Thursday night at Rock Creek Community Academy.
Ashley Johnson led the Mustangs with a game-high 20 points. Courtney Amick chipped in 12 points along with a game-high four assists.
New Washington’s Emilee Holloway and Shelby Haymaker each scored 10 points. Haymaker also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Also for New Washington, Kriston Sarver scored nine points. Sarver and teammate Melanie Dieterlen each made a game-high five steals.
Holly Whetworth paced the Lions with six points. Teammate Tabitha Thomaskevitch snagged a game-high 10 rebounds, while Rock Creek’s Christi Scholl had a team-high two assists.
New Washington led 19-2 after the first quarter and held the Lions scoreless in the second to take a 41-2 halftime advantage.
NEXT: New Washington (6-1) hosts Madison, Tuesday; Rock Creek (0-3) at Clarksville, Tuesday.
• Hornets fall to Eagles: Host Henryville blew a 24-20 lead at start of the fourth quarter and lost to Lanesville on Thursday, 34-33. The Eagles outscored the Hornets in the final stanza, 34-33.
“We had a few miscues late in the game that led to two 3-point shots and a three-point play. In a low-scoring game, that makes it hard to win,” Henryville coach Josh Conrad said.
No one for the Hornets scored in double figures. Freshman Emily Hollis paced Henryville with eight points, knocking down two 3-pointers. Teammates Jasmine Harrell and Tami Burgin each scored six points.
“We did a better job moving the basketball. We just didn’t finish open shots,” Conrad said. “As a team, we have to do a better job being ready to shoot and attacking the basket. Defensively, our intensity was better for the majority of the game, though we have to do a better job finishing.”
NEXT: Henryville (3-5, 0-2 Southern Athletic Conference) at Trinity Lutheran, Tuesday.
