Suspect in IUS assault case identified

Police: Victim had prior relationship with suspect

Police have released the identity of the suspect who allegedly assaulted an Indiana University Southeast student with a gun on campus Wednesday afternoon.

IUS campus police are working with the Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Zachary Kilgore, 33, of Plato Terrace in Louisville, Sgt. Monica Wise said Thursday.

Police records indicate a 31-year-old female IUS student was assaulted while in her car in the Hickory parking lot by Knobview Hall. Police say Kilgore, who is not a student at IUS, had a previous relationship with the victim.

The student reported the assault to campus police at 2:46 p.m. Police say the student did not suffer serious injuries and was not hospitalized.

Police searched the campus, but the suspect had already left. New Albany police also searched for the suspect off campus, but he was not located, according to IUS officials.

Kilgore reportedly left campus driving a blue Dodge pickup truck with a Kentucky license plate ending in JZJ.

Anyone with information about the assault can contact university police at 812-941-2400 or the anonymous tip line at 812-948-0684.
