A 40-year-old Sellersburg man is wanted by police after he allegedly assaulted his roommate with a hammer and then drove off with his car.
A warrant has been issued for Kevin Watts on a charge of class A felony robbery with serious bodily injury.
The assault reportedly occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday on the 2000 block of Lincoln Drive, according to a press release from the Sellersburg Police Department.
Police found Mearl Turner, 56, with serious trauma to his head and hands. Turner reportedly told police he refused to give his roommate money, and the man began beating him with a hammer.
Watts then allegedly fled the scene using Turner’s vehicle, a dark blue 1991 Honda Accord LX with Indiana registration LL5102.
Turner was transported to University Hospital in Louisville where he was treated for a laceration to his head and lacerations and fractures to his hands. He has been released from the hospital.
The suspect is still at large and is believed to be in the Louisville Metro area.
Watts is a white male, approximately 6 feet, 1 inch tall and 200 pounds. He is balding with short brown hair and blue eyes.
Police say Watts should be considered dangerous, and anyone who sees him should not try to confront him but call 911.
Anyone with information of Watts’ whereabouts is asked to call the Sellersburg Police Department at 812-246-4491 or any local law enforcement agency.
