A funeral Mass for A. Keith Scharrer, 77, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany, followed by entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 20, 1934, in New Albany and graduated from New Albany High School and the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. During his lifetime, he was employed by the former Feeney Kirby Mortuary in Indianapolis, and later, by Westwood Pharmaceuticals/Bristol Myers Squibb. He retired as funeral director with Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany. He also served his country as an active duty serviceman with the U.S. Army, and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks 270 in New Albany and past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Optimist Club, both in Indianapolis. He was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nancy Kraus Scharrer; son, Karl Scharrer and his wife, Alice, of Sellersburg; daughter, Angela Scharrer Bouch and her husband, Gary, of New Albany; and two grandchildren, Kristian and Paris O’Steen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Martha Scharrer; sister, Eunice Farnsley; brother, Vernon Scharrer; and daughter, Margaret Anne Scharrer.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Lou Kraus Jacobi Scholarship Fund, c/o I.U. Southeast, or to the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter.
