Beavin, Bernard L. ‘Joe’ Sr.

85; of New Albany


— Funeral services for Bernard L. “Joe” Beavin Sr., 85, of New Albany, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at Newcomer Funeral Home, formerly Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, with private entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010.

 He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.  He retired with more than 25 years at P. Llorilard in Louisville and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany. He was born Dec. 25, 1924 in Clark County, to the late Leo and Edna Newton Beavin.

Survivors include his son, Bernard L. Beavin Jr., and his wife, Nancy (Brannon), of New Albany; and granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Beavin, of Claremont, Calif.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bertha Bir Beavin; and sisters, Irma Payne and Cornelia Hutchison.  

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
