Lois Jane Coleman Rutherford

82; of New Albany

Funeral services for Lois Jane Coleman Rutherford  82, of New Albany, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, New Albany, with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. She died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at home with her children present.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1929 to Maureen and James Fox Coleman. She was married in 1949 for 54 years to Wallace Eugene Rutherford Jr. She attended Atherton High School and graduated from New Albany High School in 1947. She attended Western College for Women, DePauw University, and Butler University with a degree in education. When married, Jane lived in Louisville, ,Ky., Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Bernardsville, N.J., Concord, Ma.  (where she was a nursery school teacher for 15 years), and New Albany. She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served on the vestry and altar guild. She was a 50+ year member of PEO woman’s organization where she served as president, as well as Alpha Club, Coterie Club, The Book Club, Tri-Kappa Sorority, Southern Indian Quilters, and Nautical Knitters. She was a lover of the arts and was an active supporter of the Louisville Orchestra, Actor’s Theater and was a patron of Carnegie Center For Art and History in New Albany.

Survivors include two sons, Wallace Eugene Rutherford III, of Belmont, Calif. and Daniel Coleman Rutherford and his wife, Kathy, of Hong Kong; a daughter, Susan Rutherford Torma DDS and her husband, David, of Evanston, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Kyle, and Daniel Rutherford and Melissa, Andrew, and Katie Jane Torma.

Memorial visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Carriage House, 1015 E. Main St., New Albany.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to either St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1015 E. Main St., New Albany, IN 47150 or Hosparus, 624 E. Market St. New Albany, IN 47150.

Kraft Funeral Home, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany, is in charge of arrangements.
