Thomas ‘Tom’ Davenport Kimmel

82; of Jeffersonville

Thomas “Tom” Davenport Kimmel, 82, of Jeffersonville,  was stricken with a heart attack the afternoon of May 15 and succumbed on the evening of May 16, 2012, at Clark County Memorial Hospital.

He was retired from E.I. Dupont de Nemours after giving 27 years of loyal service to the company. While at Dupont he was an Accounting Clerk and Past-President of the Neoprene Clerical Workers Union. He served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force, specifically with the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Wing, and was a member of the American Legion Richard Nixon Post 679. He was always civic-minded and wanted to serve his country and community by putting his public spirit on display in his running for Mayor of Jeffersonville in 1967. He was active in several organizations including;  the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, a 50-year member of the Clark Lodge No. 40 F&AM, Valley of Indianapolis Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and Past-President of Jeff-Clark Preservation. He was never without a humorous story or a quick joke of his own. His sense of humor was enjoyed by his friends and family for many years and will be sorely missed.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandy Kimmel; and he was the beloved father of two children, Ahna O’Shaughnessy and  her husband, Kevin, and John Kimmel and his wife, Donna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank J. and Anna Marie Kimmel; and brother, Frank “FJ” Kimmel.

Private family services will be held with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for the public will be held at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to the local chapters of the following: American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or your favorite Animal Rescue Group or Society.
