A memorial Mass for James W. Waiz, 78, of Sellersburg, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Sellersburg. He died peacefully Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Sellersburg on Dec. 21, 1933, to Carl and Loretta Waiz. He was a Silver Creek High School graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College. He served his country in the United States Army, and retried as a floral designer and wholesaler. He was a member of the American Legion Post 204, and St. Paul’s Catholic Church where he sang with the choir, and the Dead Beats.
Survivors include his brother, Carl “Buzzy” Waiz and his wife, Virginia, of Sellersburg; five nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Helen Denison; and his nephew, Stephen Waiz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Catholic School Tuition Assistance Fund, or Hosparus.
