Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Price

85; WWII Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient

Funeral services for Kenneth “Kenny” Price, 85, of Madison, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at the North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard St., Madison, with interment in the Fairmount Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. Kenny died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born May 20, 1924, in Posey County to the late Harvey Monroe and Velva Robinson Price. He resided in Posey County until the age of eight. The family moved to Jefferson County in 1932, and he resided here the rest of his life. He was a 1943, graduate of North Madison High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on Oct. 4, 1943, in Madison, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant serving in the Twenty First Infantry of the Twenty Fourth Division, during World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater for 22 months and during his last six months he served as Squad Leader and led a Squad of Rifleman in action against the enemy. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 15, 1946, from Camp Atterbury and received the Purple Heart Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge for his service. He was united in marriage on Oct. 24, 1946, to Barbara York. This union was blessed with two daughters and son to bless their home. He was employed with the Humphrey Electric Shop as an electrician for several years. He then worked as a general laborer for the Indiana State Highway Department. He worked for a time period with the Jefferson Proving Ground as an electrician. In December 1954, he began employment with the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison. He served as foreman of the Electrical Shop and retired in September 1986. Kenny was united in marriage on Sept. 9, 1971, at Wilson Creek in Shelby County, by Rev. Paul Coates to Alice L. Mee. He was a faithful member of the North Madison Baptist Church; Union Masonic Lodge No. 2 F&AM; and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He enjoyed playing cards with his many friends, was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching IU Basketball and Baltimore Colts football and all other sports. Kenny will be remembered for his friendly smile and his willingness to always help a friend. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 38 years: Alice L. Mee Price of Madison; daughters, Carolyn Cohoon and her husband, Bob, of Casselberry, Fla., and Amy Price of Winter Park, Fla.; son, Stan Price of Mercer Island, Wash.; sister, Norma Stengel and her husband, Vince, of Jeffersonville; sister-in-law, Lucy Price of Madison; grandchildren, Cybill Promisel, Chad Lykins, Anika Price, and Brittany Price; great-grandchildren, Jimmy Promisel and Rebekah Promisel; his nieces and nephews, Judy Fewell, John Price, Jeanie Gossom, and Bruce Stengel; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Victor Price, and his niece, Peggy Boone.

Visitation at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., Saturday, and at the church from noon until time of service Sunday.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to North Madison Baptist Church of Fairmount Cemetery Association. Cards are available at the funeral home.
