James “Jim” Phillip Ross

70; of Jeffersonville

A celebration of life for James “Jim” Phillip Ross, 70, of Jeffersonville, will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, at Northside Christian Church Fireside Room, New Albany (Enter through door 4.) He died peacefully, Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the University of Louisville Hospital after a long battle with leukemia.

Born Dec. 8, 1941 in Jeffersonville, to Alvie and Ella “Polly” Ross, he was a member of the Jeffersonville High School Class of 1959. He was previously employed at Standard Gravure and retired from The Indianapolis Star newspaper. In his spare time he enjoyed watching and attending sporting events, traveling, and serving his community through several civic organizations, most notably the Jeff Jaycees.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Patterson and her husband, Dennis, and Suzanna Worrall and her husband, Dean; three sons, J. David Ross, of Columbus, Ohio, and Brian Ross  and his wife, Dana, and Michael Ross, of Carroll, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Shannon Ross (John Hughes), Brianna Ross, Alaninna Ross, Daniel Stephens, Brenna Ross, Noah Ross and Collin Worrall; great-granddaughter, Jayda Ross; sister, Doris Ward, of Louisville; brother, Albert Murley, of Clarksville; and longtime companion, Lynda Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Brenda Smith Ross.

Cremation was chosen.

Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Louisville.

Coots Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
