Chester C. Alexander Jr.

77; of New Albany

Funeral services for Chester C. Alexander Jr., 77, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Bethel AME Church, 315 East Fifth St., New Albany, with cremation to follow. He died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish, sharing that lifetime passion with his children and grandchildren that now carry on his legacy ever enriched with the spiritual harmony of nature and the love of Christ. He was a member of Bethel AME Church in New Albany where his family came to know and love religion. He was an original member of the Southern Indiana Coon Hunters Association. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a retired manager with the General Electric Appliance Park in Louisville. He was born April 9, 1934, in New Albany to the late Chester C. and Dorothy M. Mitchem Alexander, Sr.

He is survived by his children, Robert W. Alexander and Constance L. Webster and her husband, Ronald Sr., of New Albany, Chester C. Alexander III and his wife, LaShawan, of Spotsylvania, Va., and Myron L. Alexander and his wife, Mona, of Fairborn, Ohio; his siblings, Marion L. Brown and his wife, Avon, and Robert L. Alexander of New Albany; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.  

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Taylor Alexander; three daughters, Stephanie B. Taylor Wood, Kaye J. Alexander Forte, and Sharon R. Alexander.

Visitation  will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany.
