Oliver, Harry H.

75; Jeffersonville

A funeral Mass for Harry H. Oliver, 75, of Jeffersonville, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Jeffersonville.

He died Monday, May 24, 2010 at his home. He played in the minors 12 years for the Philadelphia Phillies. He retired from Jeffboat after 32 years and also worked as a barge inspector for Trinity Shipyard in Mississippi. He coached little league and the American Legion Post 35 baseball team. He is a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Clark County Building Authority, Teamsters Local 89, Knights of Columbus 1348, and D & T of Orange County. He also served in the Army and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores J. Oliver, of Jeffersonville; a son, H. Scott Oliver and his wife, Christine, of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Joeanna K. Joyce and her husband, Chris,  of Louisville; brothers, Glenn Dermer and his wife, Norma, of Centerville, Penn. and Lewis Oliver Jr. and his wife, Lana, of Buffalo Mills, Penn.; sisters, Dorothy Mazak, of Hollidaysburg, Penn., Burnadine Corley, of Bedford, Penn. and twin sister, Harriett Grove, of Cumberland, Md.; grandchildren, Casey D. and Carly R. Oliver, of Jeffersonville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Sr. and Dolly Rose Oliver.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hosparus or a favorite charity.

Coots Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, is in charge of the arrangements.
