Glynton F. Hammond

88; of Jeffersonville

Funeral services for Glynton F. Hammond, 88, of Jeffersonville, will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany. She died, leaving this world to be with her Heavenly Father, on Sunday, May 20, 2012.  

She was born Dec. 8, 1923. She was from West Virginia and moved to Louisville in 1947, where she met her husband, Charlie Sr. They fell in love and had a story book romance. She began her career at Barnes Medical Laboratory for 17 years.  After that, she began teaching at the University of Louisville Medical School where she would work for 30 years and eventually retired. She moved to the other side of the river a few years after Charlie Jr. was born and has been a resident of Jeffersonville/Clarksville for the remainder of her life. She was very involved in Morton Memorial Church in Clarksville, then began going to Southeast Christian Church where she was very active in their lady’s bible study.  She was also a member of the University of Louisville Cardinal Club where she supported all of the University of Louisville athletics. She was loved by many and will be missed greatly.  

She is survived by her only son, Charlie Hammond and his wife, Sharon; two grandchildren, Lauren Trotter and her husband, Tony, and Chaz Hammond and his wife, Heather; two great-grandchildren, Talan and Kaylee; along with many other nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Hammond, Sr.; her parents, Ed and Carrie Forbes; her sister, Evelyn Cyphers; and her brother, Joe Forbes.  

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

The family requests any monetary donations be made to Kosair Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Research Hospital as she was very passionate about this cause.
