CLARK COUNTY

De Anna King, 65, of Jeffersonville

Funeral services for De Anna King, 65, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at First Baptist Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Cemetery. She died Monday, July 30, 2007, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.

She was a native of Floyds Knobs, a member of First Baptist Church, Jeffersonville, a volunteer for Actors Theatre of Louisville and worked at Your Community Bank in New Albany.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn Williamson and husband, Rodney, Jeffersonville, Amy Johnson and husband, Rick, Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Cheri Miller and husband, Larry, Henryville; a son, Ross Roll and wife, Beth, Santa Claus; four brothers, Dan Mahan and wife, Barbara, Grand Bay, Ala., Ken Mahan and wife, Faye, LaPlace, La., Bill Mahan and wife, Kathy, Butler, Ala. and Mike Mahan, Grand Bay, Ala.; a sister, Linda Bernard and husband, Dan, Lucedale, Miss.; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation at Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church, Jeffersonville.

Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.



FLOYD COUNTY

John Chovan Sr., 92, of New Albany

John Chovan Sr., 92, of New Albany, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at his home.

He was formerly of Canton, Ohio, and a graduate of Massillon High School in Massillon, Ohio. He was Superintendent of Transportation and Labor for Republic Steel Corporation. He was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canton.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Chovan. They were married Oct. 19, 1940, in Massillon, Ohio. He is also survived by son, John P. Chovan and his wife, Mary, New Albany; two grandsons, John M. Chovan and his wife, Stephanie, New Albany and Scott Chovan and his wife, Shelley, West Chester, Ohio; a granddaughter, Ann Barnett and her husband, David, Sellersburg; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Austin, Alex and Tyler; a brother, Milan Chovan and his wife, Joan, Massillon, Ohio; three sisters, Irene Marsh, Perry Heights, Ohio, Mildred Peach, Henderson, Nev. and Rosella Williams, North Canton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services were held Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Reed Funeral Home in Canton, Ohio, with burial in Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Canton, Ohio.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 702 Raff Road, Canton, OH 44710.



Joseph ‘Joe’ Murphy, 51, of New Albany

Funeral services for Joseph "Joe" Murphy, 51, of New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the Kraft Chapel, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Monday July 30, 2007, at his residence. He was a native of New Albany and a superintendent with Bosse-Mattingly Construction Company. He was a member of Valley View Golf Course and attended the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Molton Murphy; a daughter, Alexis Murphy; two stepsons, Paul Ryan Gunterman and his wife, Elizabeth and Nelson Tyler Gunterman; his mother, Mary Murphy; four brothers, Perry E. Murphy Jr., Tommy Murphy, Matt Murphy and his wife, Jill and Jeffrey Murphy and his wife, Shari; two sisters, Theresa Attwood and her husband, Carl and Julie Cook and her husband, Phil; his dog an Irish setter, Casey; nine nieces and nephews; and four great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Perry E. Murphy Sr.

Visitation at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany, will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 and after 9 a.m. Friday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association or the Humane Society.



Lena M. Grisham Rafferty, 82, of New Albany

Funeral Mass for Lena M. Grisham Rafferty, 82, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Church of Our Lady, 3511 Rudd Ave., Louisville, with private entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. She died Monday, July 30, 2007, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Evansville. She was a retired nurse with the Jefferson County Health Department and was also was a real estate broker and a volunteer with Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville. She was a member of the Floyds Knobs Homemakers Club and member of Church of Our Lady in Louisville.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, William R. Rafferty; daughters, Sandra S. Sims, Floyds Knobs, Marjorie A. Graf and husband, Tom, Jeffersonville, Linda R. Voges and husband, Mark, Mt. Washington, Ky. and Dixie J. Greenwell and husband, Jim, New Albany; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Evalena Blunk Grisham; and her siblings, Bernice Grisham, Velma Knight, Melvin Grisham, Albert Lester Grisham, Madison Grisham and Ruth Dunkerson.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Church of Our Lady or Hospice and Palliative Care of Southern Indiana.



HARRISON COUNTY

Randall Gene Brooks, 52, of Corydon

Funeral services for Randall Gene Brooks, 52, of Corydon, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, with burial in East Cemetery in Fredonia. He died Friday, July 27, 2007, at his home in Corydon.

Visitation at the funeral home was Tuesday and after 9 a.m. today, Aug. 1.



OUT OF STATE

Richard Eugene Howard, 61, of Michigan

Funeral services for Richard Eugene Howard, 61, of Michigan, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at First Baptist Church, 300 Willits, Birmingham, Mich. He died Tuesday, July 31, 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn G. Howard; three sons, Glenn, Thomas and John Howard; mother, Evelyn Joy Howard; a brother, Jeffrey and wife, Myra; and a grandson, Keith.

He was preceded in death by his father and best friend, Eugene.

Memorial tributes may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 Willits, Birmingham, Mich.

A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak, Mich., is in charge of arrangements.



JoAnn Steider, 72, former Jeffersonville resident

A memorial service for JoAnn Steider, 72, of Sevierville, Tenn., formerly a long time resident of Jeffersonville, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel. She died Friday, July 13, 2007, after a long battle with cancer.

She was a member of Parkway Church of God, Sevierville, Tenn. She worked and retired as office manager and co-owner of Allison Lane Animal Hospital in Jeffersonville. She was a member of The Women’s Auxiliary to the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Dean J Steider; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Stephen Rayborn; grandchildren, PVT Andrew Rayborn, Germany and Benjamin Rayborn, Sevierville, Tenn.; sister, Marilyn Adams, Jeffersonville; brothers-in-law, Charles Mayfield and John Pilman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Stanfield and sisters, Kathryn Mayfield and Doris Eble. A sister, Marguerite Pilman passed away six days after JoAnn.

Visitation at the funeral home will be after 1 p.m. Saturday.
