Mary LaVonne Iverson

87; formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D.


A funeral Mass for Mary LaVonne Iverson, 87, of Clarksville, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at St. Lambert Church, 1000 South Bahnson Ave., Sioux Falls, S.D., with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. She died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Lifestyle Adult Care Home, Clarksville, following a longtime battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Humboldt, S.D., to the late Ralph and Matilda Kapaun Larsen. She received her education at St. Ann’s in Humboldt, and then Cathedral High School in Rapid City, S.D. On June 10, 1943, she was united in marriage with Norman Iverson at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. She was a homemaker. Following her husband’s death on Sept. 14, 2002, she continued to live on the family farm until 2005, when she went to live with her son, Ted, in New Albany. She and her husband were founding members of St. Lambert Church. She was also an active member of the Harness Club and, throughout her married life, a member of the Mount Pleasant Homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, playing the piano, and walking.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Iverson and his wife, Caroline, of Mound City, S.D., Ted Iverson and his wife, Mary, of New Albany, and Bill Iverson of Mound City, S.D.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; and infant daughter, Carroll.

Visitation will be at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, S.D. from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 8 p.m., a liturgical wake service at 7 p.m., followed by a rosary service, Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the hospice of your choice.
