Virgil Wayne ‘Pappy’ Beach

63; Army, Marine and Air Force veteran

Funeral services for Virgil Wayne “Pappy” Beach, 63, of Sellersburg, will be at noon Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Kraft Funeral Services, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in Simi Valley, Calif., while on his dream roadtrip out West with his wife.

He was a native of Jeffersonville and was an employee of Jeff Boat until being called up for active duty. He served his country for 26 years in the USMC, USAF, USAR and finishing his career in the United States Army. He was a member of The American Legion and Faith Community Church in Sellersburg.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Cherie Loyd Beach; daughters, Tammy Pritchett and her husband, Tarras, of Simi Valley, Calif. and Melissa Weis and her husband, Bryan, of Clarksville; son, Virgil Beach II and his wife, Maria, of Louisville; son-in-law, Ali Khan, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; four granddaughters, Cassie Lynn, Hannah Nicole, Shelby Lynn, and Natalie Rene; grandson, Keith Peyton; sisters, Teresa Bettinger, of Aurora, Ohio and Micki Byrd, of Borden; brothers, Gary Beach, of Gulf Port, Miss. and Dale Beach, of Lanesville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Carothers; stepfather, Tom Carothers; daughter, Angela Cuevas Khan, grandson, Matthew Rowe; and brothers, A.C. and Jerry Beach.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday.
