Leona C. Elsler

99; of Louisville

A funeral Mass for Leona C. Elsler, 99, of Louisville, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3511 Rudd Ave., Louisville, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Louisville. She died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at the home of her loving son, Douglas, in New Albany.

She was born Dec. 5, 1912, in Evansville, to the late Henry and Mary Mohr.  She was welcomed home into heaven by her mother and father, her husband, John, and her son, Marvin. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all. She loved working in her yard and had so many beautiful flowers that bloomed the entire summer. We always said she had a green thumb. She retired from the Jefferson County School System where she worked for many years as a manager and was an Avon representative and in the Presidents Club for more than 30 years. She was a member of the old St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Louisville. She was a past president and treasurer of the local AARP at the Senior Citizen House, was active with the Redman Degree of Pocahontas Alfaretta #4, and wrote articles for the Portland Anchor.

Survivors include her children, Mary McGinty, of Louisville, Robert Elsler and his wife, Margie, of Clarksville, Douglas Elsler and his wife, Vicki, of New Albany, and Patricia “Pat” Peyton, of Georgetown; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
