Paul Wendell Smith

89; of Clarksville

Funeral services for Paul Wendell Smith, 89, of Clarksville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with burial and military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012.

The son of the late Forrest and Bernice Schmuck Smith, he was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Stoneham, Colo. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran, was former manager at Caywoods Auto in Denver, worked at the former Jeffersonville Home & Hardware in Jeffersonville, and was a member of the Church of Christ in New Albany. He was a former pilot, was a jack of all trades, had a penchant for learning and dearly loved his family.  

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Betty Jean Rogers Smith; children, Beth Balsamo and her husband, Michael, of Tampa, Fla., Brandon Smith, of Floyds Knobs, and Mike Smith, of Clarksville; brothers, Forrest Lyle Smith, of Denver, and Clyde Smith, of Arlington, Texas; sister, Beulah Pieser, of San Angelo, Texas; and grandchildren, Naomi, Timothy, Joshua and Andrew Balsamo and Melchia Smith.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
