Funeral services for Robert E. Scharrer, 82, of Greenville, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at Greenville Christian Church, 9610 Clark St., Greenville, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville, with military honors. He died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
He was born in Greenville and attended Greenville Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the V.F.W. Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany. He was retired from the City of New Albany Street Dept. where he worked for more than 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, Delva M. Coleman Scharrer, of Greenville; sons, Robert D. Scharrer, of Clarksville and Ronnie L. Scharrer, of Otisco; daughter, Janet S. Knight, of New Albany; stepsons, Darrell, Dennis and Neal Coleman; stepdaughter, Cheryl Murphy; brother, Jack Scharrer, of New Albany; sisters, Betty Hisle and Edna Nicholson, both of New Albany; five grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, New Albany, from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and at the church after 10 a.m. Thursday.
