Hilda A. Kieth Owen Skaggs, 81; of Otisco

Funeral services for Hilda A. Kieth Owen Skaggs, 81, of Otisco, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg, with cremation to follow. She died Monday, June 22, 2009, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

She was a homemaker, a Baptist by faith and an avid collector of Elvis memorabilia. Her hobbies included sewing and raising roses.

She is survived by five generations: sons, Frank R. Owen and wife, Ina, of Jeffersonville, Daniel H. Owen, of New Albany and David H. Owen, of Jeffersonville; daughters, Nona Payne and husband, Stephen, of Underwood, Kathy Owen, of Otisco, Norma Owen Cash and husband, Richard, of Charlestown and Frances Owen Goforth and husband, Roger, of Jeffersonville; stepsons, Charles S. Skaggs and Eugene E. Skaggs; stepdaughters, Paula Skaggs Bryant and Linda Skaggs; brother, John “Sonny” Herald, of Troy, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Keith and Nona Thompson Keith; husbands, Gilbert R. Owen and Charles E. Skaggs; son, Gilbert Owen Jr.; brothers, Danny and Earl Keith; grandchildren, April and Holly Owen, Kevin and Jamie Schindler; and great-grandson, James Andrew Combs.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday. A graveside service will be held July 10 at the Scottsburg Cemetery.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
