Helen Louise Kingsley Whitman, 88; former New Albany resident

A memorial service for Helen Louise Kingsley Whitman, 88, of West Lafayette, formerly of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, New Albany, with internment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. She died Friday, June 19, 2009, at GreenTree Assisted Living in West Lafayette after suffering for several years with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born April 5, 1921, she was the daughter of Rillie and John Kingsley, and was a life-long resident of New Albany until moving to West Lafayette in 2007. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church in New Albany, was an employee of the New Albany-Floyd County Community School Corporation for more than 25 years and she loved working with children and teachers. An avid walker, bowler and traveler, her greatest enjoyment came from being with friends and family.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Boman of New Albany; a son, Mark Whitman and wife, Mary Beth, of West Lafayette; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Monzell, Verna and Onetta and one brother, Dumont. She married Edgar J. Whitman, Feb. 10, 1944 and he preceded her in death, April 4, 1992.

Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1415 Salem Street, Suite 202 W. Lafayette, Indiana, 47904
