John D. Poer, 89; of Hanover

Funeral services for John D. Poer, 89, of North Vernon, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home, North Vernon, with interment in Vernon Cemetery. He died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Thorton Terrace Health Care of Hanover.

Born Oct. 13, 1919 in North Vernon, and was a retired supervisor from Arvin Industries. He had been a member of the North Vernon First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, car races, and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Davis, of North Vernon and Shirley Anderson, of Jeffersonville; five grandchildren, Debbie McKeand and Brenda Glasson, of North Vernon, John Davis, of Vernon, Ty Anderson, of Charlestown and Pat Anderson, of Memphis; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Nancy Pritchett Poer; his wife, Helen Reese Poer; four brothers, Arthur, Maynard, Walter and Edgar Poer; and great-great grandson, Cameron Burton-Davis.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the North Vernon First United Methodist Church.
