Herbert E. Zumstein, 81; U.S. Army veteran

A funeral Mass for Herbert E. Zumstein, 81, of Starlight, will be at 11 a.m. today, June 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 8310 St. Johns Road, Floyds Knobs, with private burial in Wright Cemetery, Whitaker, Ky. He died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home with his family by his side.

He was an Army veteran, retired from Carpenters Local Union 64, a member of American Legion Post 777 in Indianapolis, and a member of St. John Catholic Church in Starlight. He was born March 31, 1928, in Seco, Ky., to the late Oscar and Artie Barron Zumstein.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Colette C. Boesing Zumstein; sons, Kenneth and his wife, Linda, of Bargersville, Alan and his wife, Lisa, of Lexington, Ky., and Everett and his wife, Shellie, of Floyds Knobs; daughters, Shirley Zumstein, of Floyds Knobs, Barbara Howard and her husband, Steve, of Durham, N.C., Millie Zumstein and her friend, Steve Adams, of Edwardsville, Helen Bierly of Salem, Marleen Bostock and her husband, Greg, of Floyds Knobs, Becky Book and her husband, Joe, of Starlight, and Monica Zumstein, of Floyds Knobs; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Harold Zumstein; and his sons-in-law, Michael Heltzel and George T. Fisher.

Visitation was Monday at Generations Funeral Home, New Albany.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Victory Junction Gang Kids Camp or Hosparus – the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana.
