John Rickey Sheppard

John Rickey Sheppard, 57; Vietnam War Army veteran

A memorial service for John Rickey Sheppard, 57, of Jeffersonville, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the American Legion Post 35, 217 West Court Ave., Jeffersonville. He died Jan. 27, 2010, at the V.A. Medical Center, Louisville.

He was born Aug. 23, 1952, in Bethesda, Md., to the late Fred and Margaret Morris Sheppard. He was a construction worker and cook. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion Post 35 and VFW Post 1832 in Jeffersonville.

Survivors include his son, John Henry Sheppard and his wife, Brenda, of Jeffersonville; sister, Peggy Morris of Jeffersonville; brother, Fred F. Sheppard of Texas; granddaughters, Miranda and Danielle Grant; grandson, Randy Sheppard; three great-grandchildren; and niece, Melissa Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at the Post at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Cremation and burial were chosen through Vogt Cremation Service, Louisville.

Coots Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, is in charge of the arrangements.
