Neighborhood food drive challenge issued
The following is an open letter to Jeffersonville’s neighborhood associations:
We the members of Franklin Commons Neighborhood Association, the best neighborhood association in Jeffersonville, hereby challenge Woodhaven and Cherry Hill neighborhoods and all other Jeffersonville neighborhoods to a competitive food drive benefiting the Center for Lay Ministries. The drive will end during National Night Out on Aug. 7.
The Center for Lay Ministries is a social services agency located in downtown Jeffersonville. Food collected will be donated to their food pantry which provides assistance to those in need, including providing home deliveries to those unable to come to the center. The need for food assistance is high in the summer as children are out of school where meals are often provided.
The timing of this drive will allow the pantry to replenish stock in this time of high demand, and we hope the competition will contribute to a sense of fun and community among our city’s neighborhoods. As we understand a food drive may be a big undertaking for some neighborhoods, money can also be donated. Every $4 collected will equal one pound of food for the competition.
Now, we of Franklin Commons are quite confident we are going to win this competition, but the center and those who use its services will benefit greatly by Jeffersonville’s other neighborhoods trying to match our awesomeness.
For more information about the Center for Lay Ministries and their programs, contact Matthew Hudson at 812-282-0063. For more information about the competitive food drive, contact Kelley Curran at 812-207-3416.
May the best neighborhood association (us!) win.
