> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Resident upset with Jeff Sewer Department



Shame on the city of Jeffersonville Sewer Department and board. My utility bill due Aug. 10, 2012, says that my total charges will be $86.90. Instead, $94.50 was taken from my checking account. Years ago, I set up automatic withdrawal for my sewer bill. Never in a million years would I think that the Jeffersonville Sewer Department would make an adjustment without any notification to their customers.

The sewer board voted to apply the amount given in credit on June bills. In August, they added this adjustment to my bill, but it was done after the bill was sent out. I was not notified and this is wrong. It would have been so easy for the Jeffersonville Sewer Department to wait one month and add an adjustment with a notification. In my opinion, what they did was robbery.

I want my money back. Since when can the Jeffersonville Sewer Department decide to just take my money without notifying me in advance? There has to be some kind of law that does not allow you to do this.

Shame on you.

A confusing situation in Clarksville



It’s sad that this totally fictitious phone conversation could be a reality in Clarksville:

On Thursday, I called Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District Joe Donelly’s office and told his staff person that I needed to discuss a problem that I was having in Clarksville.

She said, “Excuse me, Where are you having the problem?” I said, “Clarksville.” She was very nice and said, “I would love to help you, but I am not sure where Clarksville is located?” I said, “It is right across the Ohio River from Louisville”

“Oh, I see.” She then placed me on hold. After a few minutes she came back on the line and said that, “Even though that she would like to help me, Clarksville is located in the 9th congressional district and you called the 2nd district” I asked her what difference that made, and she said that Indiana is divided into districts, and that each district had a representative that represented that specific district.

She went on to tell me that the 2nd District is in the Northern part of Indiana and contains cities such as South Bend and Elkhart.

“So,” I said to her, “you aren’t going to help me with my problem are you.” She said that the 9th District representative would be the person that I needed to contact, which is Todd Young. I thanked her for her time and said I guess that I would try to contact the next person down on the list which I guess would be the 3rd District rep. She seemed a little bit perturbed and asked what part of the 9th District, and district representation, didn’t I understand.

I said I know you don’t know where Clarksville is located, but have you ever heard of how we are represented? I explained the whole townwide voting to her, where everyone votes for everyone. She said, “So you don’t have a truly devoted representative from you district?”

I said exactly. We do not have district voting in Clarksville.

She said, “whew now I am confused. Let me get you the number for the 3rd district.”

This comes in response to a letter written by Francis Harris of Clarksville, published on Aug. 18-19.

Yes, Francis, I have that problem, also. I have Dish Network, and channels WBKI and WMYO blink out. I called Dish and they said it was my TV.

But, on other channels it does not do that.

Reader comments on Young, GOP amendment



Recently, the Republican Party voted to include the “Human Life Amendment” in its platform, calling for a constitutional ban on abortions nationwide, even for rape victims.

A close look at this bill shows that U.S. Rep. Todd Young from Indiana’s 9th District was one of the co-sponsors. I find it ludicrous that he, as well as the other co-sponsors, consider themselves experts on rape, even citing that rape victims have a defense mechanism not to get pregnant. Perhaps this is an indication that Young is out of touch with reality and is not qualified to be making decisions based on inaccuracies and conjecture.
