> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
JEERS
... to the City of New Albany, the Indiana Department of Transportation and the contractors in charge of the Ind. 111/ Grant Line Road construction work.
Last week, local businesses had to write their own signs and post them alerting people they were still open because of the confusing signage placed along the route when Grant Line Road closed at the railroad crossing. Unfortunately, this has been par for the course on this project. Whether it be massive potholes created on the sides of the road and interstate exit, the lack of information shared with business owners or the near daily shifts in apparently closed lanes, there’s been a lapse in communication on this effort that at times has led to quite dangerous situations. Yes, with every great road improvement comes some pains, but many of these are unnecessary. Perhaps if the city spent as much time informing the public of the traffic situation on one of its busiest roads as it does touting and explaining parking for its Live@5 concert series, the situation would be much better.

CHEERS
... to the city of New Albany for making a decision Wednesday to cancel its weekly Live@5 event scheduled for Friday.
This move because of extreme heat in the forecast gave ample time to spread the word that the weekly concert would not be held.

CHEERS
... to the Clarksville Parks Department for providing water for softball players during the oppressive heat this week.
Although the News and Tribune Extras once again fell, this time 6-4, it was a nice gesture for the parks staff to place a water cooler and cups in the dugout so we could at least drown our sorrows.
It’s certain we won’t lose this coming week. There are no games scheduled Thursday.

CHEERS
... to using common sense when setting off fireworks in the coming days.
It’s really, really dry out and people should take that into consideration before setting off any fireworks. If you live near a wooded area or field, please think twice before sending bottle rockets into the air.
In general, be respectful of fireworks and the damage they can do. And if you don’t understand what sort of destruction wildfires can cause, turn on the TV and check out what’s happening out West.

READER CHEERS
... to the caring people of Clarksville and surrounding areas.
As chairperson for the Clarksville High School After Prom this past May, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every individual and business in Clarksville and the surrounding community for their generous support. Each and every donation of prizes, food and money was appreciated more than you will ever know.
The kids of Clarksville High School had a wonderful time in a safe and drug/alcohol free environment. We wanted to take out a half-page ad in the News and Tribune to thank each and every one of you by name but donations were down this year and we opted to use all of the money donated on the kids.
So, please do not think you were not appreciated. Everything donated, from the very smallest donation to the largest, was used for the kids and all equally important to the success of the event. The students, faculty, staff and parent volunteers of Clarksville High School appreciate the community’s support of the After Prom and look forward to continued support in the years to come.
Thank you!
