CHEERS
... to those readers who called or emailed regarding my Jeer of chicken sandwiches last week. Thank you for being interactive and caring about an issue.
Obviously, my point of simply being sick of the controversy around Chick-fil-A was lost on some people.
In my opinion, it became a far larger news story than ever warranted and I was simply trying to point out how all of it was starting to make my head hurt.
Think about it this way, there have been two mass murder shootings in the past month in the country and we’ve heard far less debate about the reasons behind or solutions for those than where people should get their fast food.
That’s sad.

... to chicken sandwiches.
I think that chicken sandwiches are delicious and the best can be found at Chick-fil-A. Free speech is alive and well. Their chocolate brownies are wonderful too.

... to the committee making selections of which sidewalks will be repaired in Jeffersonville for overlooking the west side of Main Street from Plank Road to 10th Street.
This area gets lots of foot traffic. People working in America Place, the Census Bureau and local residents often visit Youngstown Shopping center. Also, bus riders walk to the bus stop at 10th and Main. This block only has sidewalks on one half of the west side of the block and the existing sidewalks are in horrible condition for foot traffic.

READER CHEERS
... to whoever writes the headlines for the News and Tribune.
The Thursday, Aug. 9, front page had a trifecta of excellent puns: “Fringe Benefits;” “Pressure Points;” and a classic, “Who’s In First?” [I also have to cheer the N&T’s uncanny timing — how could they know that right underneath this issue in my mailbox was the Abbott & Costello collection DVD I had ordered?]
— Sam Johnson, New Albany
READER CHEERS
... to all the dedicated teachers and staff who make it possible for our children/our future to become productive.
... to the News and Tribune for continuing to be a viable business, in newsprint and on the Internet.
— Debra Koons, New Albany
READER JEERS
... to the News and Tribune for such grammatical gems as sic “woken” and the multiple instances of stories including “off of” when off is sufficient.
Welcome back to English class students. I mean welcome back to Journalism class N&T staff.
... to local and state legislative bodies for not placing insurance, licensing and registration requirements on scooters.
Motorcyclists must have a special license endorsement, why not these two wheeled vehicles? Motorcycles must have insurance and valid plates, why not these two wheeled vehicles? How many injuries, fatalities and property damages must occur before Indiana acts?
... to construction and utility crews for making smoothly paved streets into uneven land mines.
For example, Pearl Street in downtown New Albany. If they tear it to pieces they should repair it properly. Come on city leaders, hold the contractors accountable.
