Drug arrest made in Clarksville Target parking lot

Police find man with heroin stashed in vehicle

CLARKSVILLE — A Jeffersonville man was found in possession of heroin in the parking lot of the Veterans Parkway Target store by Clarksville police Thursday afternoon.

Prior to police arriving at the retailer, investigators obtained information that Jason Bunnell, 41, of 1006 Robin Drive, had purchased heroin in Jeffersonville. A description of how the heroin was packaged and where the drugs were located in the vehicle driven by Bunnell was also provided to police before arriving at Target.

Through their investigation, police believed Bunnell was not only in possession of heroin, but that he  also was going to Target to steal merchandise to return for gift cards. Police reported that officers saw Bunnell’s vehicle enter the parking lot soon after their arrival. After Bunnell parked his vehicle, he was approached by police, who asked if he was in possession of any drugs.

“Not that I know of,” Bunnell responded, according to the incident report, and he proceeded to give officers permission to search his vehicle.

Soon after officers began searching the car, Bunnell told them, “I let a friend borrow my car yesterday,” according to the police report.

Officers discovered the heroin in the packaging and location of the vehicle that was previously described to police. After locating the drugs, it tested positive as heroin. Police said the heroin discovered was approximately one-half gram.

After police took the drugs from the vehicle, Bunnell was charged with possession of heroin, a class B felony, and booked in the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex.

Court records did not reflect the time of Bunnell’s initial hearing as of press time.

Records do show, however, that Bunnell was convicted in 2007 with maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony, in Clark County. He completed his subsequent probation sentence in 2009.
