NEW ALBANY —
New Albany police have arrested a man they say is responsible for multiple burglaries in the Southern Indiana area.
Charles A. Hall, 37, was charged in connection with home burglaries that were reported to police between April and October, according to a release from the New Albany Police Department. Hall is responsible for 40 separate break-ins to date in New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville, according to the release
Hall was identified through the department’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System as a suspect after two NAPD officers obtained fingerprint evidence at two separate burglarized homes. The fingerprints along with other evidence obtained through the investigation led to additional charges and to Hall’s arrest.
The investigation involved the cooperative efforts of several law enforcement agencies including Clarksville, Jeffersonville and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department.
The fingerprint system is designed to assist law enforcement in preliminary fingerprint identification according to the release. The preliminary identification is then verified by a certified fingerprint analysis expert, a certification of which an officer with the NAPD maintains.
