NEW ALBANY —
New Albany police detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred at a New Albany gas station at about 3:45 Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called to the BP Station, 2212 E. Spring St., after a 56-year-old woman reported she was attacked and robbed by a male who appeared to be in his teens as she walked to her car in the BP parking lot, according to NAPD Capt. Ken Fudge.
Fudge said the woman told police that two males were sitting on a railing close to where she parked her car. As she got close to her vehicle, one of the men circled around behind her and threw her to the ground. The woman’s wallet was taken after being knocked to the pavement. She was not seriously injured.
“Cars were coming in and out of the lot. It was pretty bold,” Fudge said. “Fortunately, there were no weapons involved.”
Fudge said the woman didn’t have any money inside her purse, just credit cards which she canceled immediately.
The incident was caught on the station’s surveillance camera which was released to news media outlets Friday. Fudge hopes someone will step forward with information that will lead to an arrest.
“Some people we end up arresting will tell us who commits robberies or other crimes,” he said. “We will do the best we can to find a solution to this crime.”
Fudge also said he does not think Wednesday’s event has anything to do with the recent robbery at Circle K along Main Street.
Anyone with information on the crime can call the NAPD tip line at 812-948-NAPD.
