JEFFERSONVILLE —
A Jeffersonville man has been preliminarily charged with several counts of sexual abuse on a 13-year-old Jeffersonville girl.
Bernard Earl Harris, 44, was placed under arrest by Jeffersonville police Thursday night at his home located at 1121 Whelan Lane, after officers conducted a search warrant of the property.
“A search warrant confirmed that child molestation had taken place, and Bernard Harris was the suspect,” Jeffersonville Police Detective Isaac Parker said.
Parker said the investigation continues to be a “very open investigation,” and that few details regarding the case are being disclosed. He did say officers are confident additional sexual abuse charges will be filed.
Before the arrest was made, officers were able to reach Harris by phone and a meeting was arranged at his home where he was later taken into custody.
Parker said Child Protective Services filed the report with police Sept. 26. Police declined to say when or where the alleged crimes took place.
Harris has been preliminarily charged with child molestation, a class A felony, and child solicitation, a class C felony.
An initial hearing is scheduled in Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 Monday, Oct. 8.
