SCOTTSBURG —
A man was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in a Scott County court Wednesday.
Robert Petty, 33, was on trial for the 2010 murder of his ex-wife, Nina Keown, who was 26 years old at the time of her death.
Keown, of Lexington, Ind., had gone missing Aug. 7 of that year, and her remains were found near Bethlehem in Clark County nearly three weeks later.
Petty was considered a person of interest after Keown’s disappearance since he had been the last person to see her. The two were also known to have been in an argument before she went missing.
Petty later led investigators to Keown’s body, which had been dumped in the woods about 150 feet from New Washington-Bethlehem Road.
Petty was also found guilty of removal of a body from scene and obstruction of justice, both D felonies. Following the verdict, the court found basis to enter a habitual offender enhancement to his charges, which will extend his sentence.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled April 17.
