ISP makes drug arrest of texting driver

Traffic stop on I-65 results in prescription pill charges

SELLERSBURG — Indiana State Police stopped a vehicle on Interstate 65 near Sellersburg on Thursday after seeing the driver texting and driving.

During the traffic stop, the ISP trooper found enough narcotics in the vehicle to charge the driver with 11 felony drug charges.

Johnnie Sizemore, 27, of Austin, was driving a blue 1998 Ford pickup truck along I-65 about noon when a trooper noticed him texting behind the wheel and driving the vehicle off the roadway several times.

ISP reported, “As the trooper stopped the vehicle near the eight-mile marker in Clark County he could sense something was just not right with the driver.”

After the traffic stop was made, troopers searched the truck and located several controlled substances that included Hydrocodone, Xanax, Opana and Alprazolam. A hypodermic needle and $1,445 cash also were located.

Sizemore was preliminarily charged with class B felony dealing in a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance; possession of a schedule III controlled substance; two counts possession of a schedule IV controlled substance; possession of a hypodermic needle; four counts possession of a legend drug; and maintaining a common nuisance, all class D felonies.

He was also preliminarily charged with a texting while driving infraction.

Following the traffic stop, Sizemore was booked into the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex in Jeffersonville.

As of press time Friday, Sizemore had not yet been officially charged in a Clark County court.
