MEMPHIS —
Indiana State Police arrested a Memphis man Tuesday after a vehicle chase down the wrong side of Interstate 65 and several county roads, and a foot chase in a wooded area involving K-9 units, according to an ISP press release.
Charles F. Jackson, 42, was stopped by Trooper Mark Lamaster near the Henryville rest area along I-65 for a traffic infraction. As Lamaster questioned Jackson, he put the car into gear and sped off, according to the release.
Lamaster chased Jackson, who was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima, south on I-65. At one point during the pursuit, Jackson drove his car in the northbound lane before exiting at the Henryville exit. Speeds during the chase exceeded 80 mph, according to the release. The vehicle chase concluded when Jackson drove his car into an open field along Biggs Road in Memphis.
Troopers and officers from several other police agencies set up a perimeter and used K-9 units to hunt Jackson, and eventually found him hiding under several boards in a junk pile, according to the release.
Jackson was taken into custody and transported to Clark County Jail, where he is held on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, a class D felony; resisting law enforcement on foot, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal recklessness in an automobile, a class A misdemeanor. He is also charged with invasion of privacy, a class D felony, as the passenger in the car had a protection order against Jackson, according to the release.
Jackson was also wanted on two different warrants originating in Clark County, one of which includes three counts of resisting law enforcement and a count of criminal recklessness.
The passenger in the vehicle was not arrested, and no one was injured during the pursuit, according to the release.
