Man faces five counts of child molestation

John LaBoa, 58, allegedly fondled, exposed himself to minors

NEW ALBANY — A New Albany man was arrested Thursday on five felony counts of child molestation involving three young girls.

John LaBoa, 48 and a resident of 740 Linden St. apartment No. 2, faces two class A felony counts of child molesting related to alleged oral sexual contact with a child less than 14 years of age. He’s also charged with three class C felony counts of child molesting for alleged fondling of a child less than 14 years of age.

According to a probable-cause affidavit filed in Floyd Superior Court No. 3, the New Albany Police Department began investigating LaBoa after the department received a complaint May 4. The first interview led to follow-up investigations involving two other girls, and the three alleged victims spoke with a forensic interviewer after NAPD contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services.

The children are all less than 12 years old.

According to the affidavit, the children stated during their interviews that LaBoa had touched some of them in inappropriate sexual ways, exposed himself to them and engaged in oral sex on at least one of the girls while they were alone with him. The affidavit also states that LaBoa allegedly showed pornographic movies to the children. The three children in addition to two other minors interviewed by police said that LaBoa made them take baths together.

A search warrant of LaBoa’s residence resulted in police finding a pornographic magazine and a silver ring that one of the children told the interviewer she had seen him wear on his genitals when he allegedly exposed himself.

According to the affidavit, LaBoa admitted to “having” one of the girls without her pants or underwear on with the intention of putting medicine on her for a yeast infection.

LaBoa allegedly told police he “then realized he should not touch her so he pulled away.”

The affidavit states he told police he was in possession of pornographic movies but had thrown all of them away, and that he had caught the girls watching the movies.

LaBoa was to appear Friday in Floyd Superior Court No. 3 for an initial hearing. A message left for NAPD Chief Sherri Knight seeking comment hadn’t been returned as of press time.
