Domestic dispute lands Charlestown man in jail

Man registered 0.25 blood-alcohol content

CHARLESTOWN — A woman punched her husband after he had assaulted her and prevented her from leaving their Charlestown home Tuesday, Feb. 26, police reported.

Police were alerted of the situation when the reportedly drunken husband showed up the in the lobby of the Charlestown Police Department.

Jose Andasol, 33, of 101 Halcyon Road, appeared at the department about 11 p.m. and officers noticed blood coming from his nose and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Officers reported that Andasol was difficult to understand and changed his story of what had happened to him before he was taken from the department to Saint Catherine Regional Hospital for treatment. Officers then went to Andasol’s home and found blood on the door jam and door, but found no one at the residence.

Andasol’s wife later arrived at the police department with blood droplets on her clothing and swollen red marks on her neck. Officers reported that she was crying, upset and showing no signs of intoxication. She refused medical treatment.

The woman told police that her husband had come home “highly intoxicated” and started arguing. The argument elevated to Andasol choking her with the hooded sweatshirt she was wearing. The woman also reported when she tried to leave the residence, Andasol slapped her in the head and prevented her from leaving.

During the struggle, the woman was able to free herself, at which time she punched Andasol in the nose and left the home. She immediately went to her sister’s home, the woman told officers, and was  “ ... scared to call police after she got away because she did not want Jose [Andasol] going to jail.”

The woman said she came to the police department after driving by her home and seeing a police presence.

At Saint Catherine’s, police administered an alcohol breath test, to which Andasol returned a 0.25 blood alcohol concentration. After he was released from hospital care, Andasol was booked into the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex in Jeffersonville.

He was later charged in Clark County Circuit Court No. 3 with D felony strangulation and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
