A man and his two children, all of New Albany, who were considered missing by area officials, were found unharmed about 7:30 a.m. today by troopers with the Kentucky State Police.
Michael Mann, 34, his daughter, Macy Mann, 5, and his son, Madden Mann, 3, were last seen at Mann’s home about 10 p.m. Saturday, New Albany Police Maj. Keith Whitlow said Monday, as the family was preparing to travel to Mann’s mother’s home in Versailles, Ky.
Mann and his children never made it to his mother’s home.
The children’s mother filed missing-persons reports with the New Albany Police Department early Monday morning.
The family was found walking along Interstate 75, near London, Ky., when they were discovered by the troopers, KSP Lt. John Yates said. Yates said the same troopers had previously located the 2006 Kia van the family had been traveling in abandoned alongside the same area of the interstate.
The vehicle was fully operational, Whitlow said, when it was found by KSP.
Yates said late this morning that Mann and the children remained at the KSP post in London, where they were taken after being found on the interstate. Yates said authorities have not discovered why Mann and the children abandoned the vehicle on the interstate.
“We are looking into the entire situation right now,” Yates said. “We are in contact with authorities in Indiana and the families involved.”
Yates said the vehicle was towed late Monday night from the interstate before the family was found this morning.
