9 P.M. UPDATE: Clarksville police investigating murder after man shot dead at home

Police are searching for the car of victim, Billy R. Chambers, 39

CLARKSVILLE — CLARKSVILLE — Police on Tuesday night were still looking for the suspect who fatally shot a man earlier in the afternoon inside his Clarksville home.

Billy R. Chambers, 39, was found deceased near the front door of his two-story brick home at 806 Parkwood Drive after suffering several gunshot wounds.

Clarksville Police Maj. Darrell Rayborn said officers were dispatched to the home at 3:14 p.m.

Rayborn said he was not sure who made the initial call to authorities, but said it may have been Chambers’ 12- or 13-year-old daughter upon returning to the home from school.

“The way I understand it is the daughter came home from school around 3 o’clock,” Rayborn said. “I am assuming she called 911.”

Rayborn said an unknown white male was seen speeding from the driveway of the home about 1 p.m. Monday in Chambers’ 2001 white Ford Mustang Cobra with Clark County, Indiana license plate number 496 LPU.

Clarksville police are hoping the public will help investigators locate the vehicle and the person who was driving it.

“We do need help trying to find his vehicle,” Rayborn said.

He said the fatal shots were fired from inside the home, and no signs of forced entry were found by investigators.

“Officers are still there collecting evidence, going through the house, and we are assuming there was no forced entry — so, [there is a] good possibility (Chambers) knew the subject,” Rayborn said Tuesday evening.

Rayborn said the time of the shooting has not been determined, and that he believes only Chambers and his daughter reside in the home.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the whereabouts of the Mustang is urged to call Clarksville police at 812-288-7121.

“Any information we get from the public would be greatly appreciated,” Rayborn said.
