MADISON —
Charlestown avenged last season’s loss to Madison by scoring 67 points on 379 yards in a season-opening 67-14 road victory on Friday.
“The defense played great,” Pirates coach Jason Hawkins told CharlestownPiratePride.com. “Offensively, we had some sloppy stuff that I just didn’t like, but overall, we played pretty good.”
Senior quarterback Aaron Daniel led the Pirates with 149 yards on the ground, including three touchdowns and added another 120 through the air and another three scores.
Darren Taylor caught two of the Daniel scoring tosses and finished with 54 yards. Tyler Odle had 66 yards and a touchdown.
The Pirates led 27-0 at the end of one quarter nd 41-7 at the half.
• Clarksville stumbles at Southridge, 48-14: Marquise Parrish returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, but Southridge scored the game’s final 34 points to defeat Clarksville, 48-14.
Parrish returned the first Southridge kick for 65 yards to tie the game at 7-7. After the Raiders scored again, Parrish returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards to knot the score at 14-apiece.
“He had a fabulous night,” Clarksville coach Steve Cooley said of Parrish. “He’s a playmaker. He was like lightning out there.”
Later in the first half, Parrish went down with a mild concussion and didn’t return. Running back Josh Grady also suffered a rib injury in the first half.
“[The injuries] took the wind out of our sails,” Cooley said. “Our kids played hard. Southridge is a good team. We just had too many penalties and mistakes.”
